Odawara Hojo Godai Festival 2017

Odawara Hojo Godai Festival is the largest tourism event in Odawara city, which is held on May 3 every year. The festival is to honor the five generations of Hojo Tribe which was a Daimyo tribe during Japan’s Sengoku period. Daimyo Hojo ruled the Kanto area for about 100 years. The highlight of the festival is a parade consisting of 1,700 people in total, including members of orchestra, musical bands, Odawara lantern dance, and armored warriors of Hojo Tribe.
The whole parade is about an 90 minutes walk stretching for about 3km in the town.
This year, Odawara hometown ambassador “Masashi Goda” will appear as Hojo Souun (the 1st generation), and also the famous actor “Masanobu Takashima” who performed his role as Hojo Ujimasa (the 4th generation) in the drama called “Sanada Maru”.
