2021 Spring Special Exhibition “Nobody Knows? The History of Rice in Niigata”

Niigata currently boasts the largest production of rice in Japan. The name “rice-producing region” has become synonymous with Niigata.
But has this been true since the beginning of rice cultivation in Japan? Or is it a recent development? How was the rice cooked and what kind of dishes were used to eat it? Using excavated artifacts and the results of the latest research, we will take a closer look at the history of rice in “rice-producing Niigata” that you may not know.
