Utagawa Hiroshige The Three Tokaido

Tōkaidō Ukiyo-e has become almost synonymous with Hiroshige that we commonly hear: “the first thing that comes to mind is Hiroshige when we hear the Tōkaidō Fifty-three Stations!” Hiroshige created more than 20 “Tōkaidō” series (Soroimono) during his lifetime. This exhibition will introduce three masterpieces by Hiroshige including the “Fifty-Three Stations of the Tōkaidō (Tōkaidō Hoeidō Edition)”, as well as “Fifty-three Stations of the Tōkaidō (Gyōsho Tōkaidō)”, and “Tōkaidō Road (Reisho Tōkaidō)”, which were well received for its beautiful design, color, engravings, and print. Additionally, this exhibition will look into other scenery work depicting post-towns in a landscape composition, and explore the creativity and beauty that are hidden within the work.
Please also enjoy other Tōkaidō series work by Hiroshige in the small exhibition room.
