The materials left behind and entrusted by Official Lodging “Ajiya”

During the Edo period, the village of Joge key transit point and housed a branch administrative office of the Iwami Silver Mine, making it part of the Tokugawa shogun’s domain.
As a subordinate clerk, the village inn “Ajiya” handled duties such as preparing official documents.
An inn sign discovered at “Ajiya” inscribed with “Abe Kazue no Kamiyado.” A copy of an official document written as a clerk’s subordinate, “Goyōdome.”
The entrusted documents reveal the shogunate army’s desperate situation, the immense financial resources of Joge Village, and its central role in transportation operations during the Second Chōshū War. Please view these documents, many being released for the first time.
