Experience the Peach Blossom Paradise: Fuefuki Tougenkyo Spring Festival 2026
While Japan is famous for cherry blossoms, there is another spectacular spring landscape that many international travelers have yet to discover. In Fuefuki City, Yamanashi Prefecture, orchards across the basin burst into bloom each spring, creating a vast pink landscape known as Tougenkyo — Japan’s Peach Blossom Paradise.
From March 22 to mid-April 2026, the Fuefuki Tougenkyo Spring Festival celebrates this seasonal transformation. The area is known as Japan’s largest peach-growing region by cultivation area, and during the bloom season approximately 250,000 to 300,000 peach trees flower across the valley, turning the countryside into a sea of soft pink.
The festival season begins on March 22 with the Sakaigawa Mizubasho Spring Festival, where early-blooming mizubasho (Asian skunk cabbage) flowers signal the arrival of spring. Local performances, small festival games, and community activities create a welcoming atmosphere for visitors.
In early April, the peach blossoms reach their peak. On April 4–5, visitors can join the popular “Walk Through the Peach Blossom Paradise” event, following scenic walking routes through orchards and countryside viewpoints. Participants who photograph designated spots along the route can enter a prize drawing featuring local specialties such as peaches and Shine Muscat grapes.
For a more active way to explore the region, the Ride & Walk program allows visitors to travel between scenic spots, wineries, and restaurants by electric bicycle or on foot, offering panoramic views of the pink-covered valley.
Throughout the festival period, travelers can also enjoy local cuisine, Yamanashi wines, and seasonal events including traditional hillside bonfires that light up the evening sky.
Using Isawa Onsen, one of Yamanashi’s most famous hot-spring resorts, as a base, visitors can easily explore the blossom areas by taxi, bus, bicycle, or guided walking routes.
If you are looking for a unique spring flower experience beyond cherry blossoms, Fuefuki’s peach blossom valley offers one of Japan’s most breathtaking seasonal landscapes.
