Zao Juhyo Festival 2026

The Zao Juhyo Festival celebrates the spectacular winter scenery of the Zao mountain range, where unique weather conditions create massive natural ice formations known as juhyo or snow monsters. These towering shapes form one of Japan’s most striking winter landscapes, attracting visitors from around the world. At night, the juhyo are illuminated in shifting colors, creating a mysterious and memorable atmosphere.

For the 2026 season, several special programs are planned, including a torchlight ski descent and Winter Hanabi fireworks that brighten the slopes. Additional attractions will feature a display of winter work vehicles, a fortune-themed walking route through the Zao hot spring area, and atmospheric lighting installations using rising steam from the onsen.

A kids’ snow park is also planned, offering a safe and fun space for families to enjoy winter activities together. Combining natural beauty, snow scenery, and nighttime performances, the festival presents a distinctive winter experience unique to Zao.
