Nagoya City New Year Fire Review

The Nagoya City New Year Fire Review, held every year at the start of January, is a long-standing New Year tradition and a popular disaster-prevention event among local residents.
The venue, Garden Pier at Nagoya Port, offers an open, seaside setting where the Nagoya Fire Department and volunteer fire corps showcase powerful demonstrations.

Visitors can witness dynamic firefighting drills performed by firefighters and volunteer members, a full lineup of fire engines from across the city, an impressive mass water-spraying display, and even a demonstration flight by a fire-rescue helicopter — all highlighting the many facets of firefighting work.

At the simultaneously held Firefighting Friendship Plaza, open from 9:30 AM to 3:00 PM, families can enjoy a concert by the “Pokka Lemon Fire Department Band,” fire-scene demonstration exhibits, dress-up experiences with children’s firefighter, rescue, and aviation uniforms, an earthquake simulation vehicle, as well as food trucks and other fun attractions.
Special exhibits, including a Mercedes-Benz ladder truck and opportunities to sit inside a fire engine, add even more excitement.

Admission is free, making it a perfect New Year outing that combines hands-on learning with memorable experiences. It remains one of Nagoya’s beloved winter traditions.
