Reiwa 8 (2026) Tenryo Jōge Hina Festival
Jōge Town became a direct shogunate territory during the Edo period, flourishing as a center of commerce and finance. Its townscape, still richly retaining the atmosphere of that era, evokes the charm of the Edo period. This prosperous town has passed down various hina dolls from the late Edo period to the present day through generations. During the Tenryo Jōge Hina Festival, over 5,000 hina dolls are displayed in shops and homes along the approximately 800-meter stretch of white-walled townscape. This transforms the area from its usual atmosphere reminiscent of an ancient capital into a vibrant, festive townscape.
Additionally, the “Deco Market” event will be held on Saturday, February 28th, and Sunday, March 1st. Stall vendors line the white-walled shopping street of Jōge Town, hosting events like mochi flower-making workshops, allowing visitors to experience the bustling atmosphere reminiscent of the early Shōwa period. Furthermore, the Okinaza Theater, a Registered Tangible Cultural Property, will be open as a photo spot where visitors can wear traditional wedding kimonos and take commemorative photos on the stage featuring the pine-patterned curtain gifted by Nakamura-za for the 2024 Kabuki performance. The Okinaza, made famous in the film “National Treasure,” is a popular photo spot where visitors can experience the atmosphere of a traditional theater from that era.
Please come to Jōge Town to enjoy the splendid Hinamatsuri festival and experience Tenryo Tourism.
