Joge-cho was under the direct control of the shogunate in the Edo period (1603-1867) and prospered as a commercial and financial town because of its location at the strategic point of the Yin-Yang transportation system. In this prosperous town, various hina dolls from the end of the Edo period to the present day have been handed down from generation to generation.
During the festival, more than 5,000 hina dolls will be displayed in each store and house along the approximately 800-meter-long white walled townscape.
On March 1 (Sat.) and 2 (Sun.), the “Dekoichi” event will be held, with stalls lining the shopping street in the white-walled streets of Joge-cho, and events such as making mochi flowers will be held, The Okinaza Theater, a registered tangible cultural property, will be open to the public as a spot for commemorative photo shoots wearing colored Uchikake on the stage with the Matsuhamekake curtain given by Nakamuraza for last year’s Kabuki performance.
Please visit Joge-cho, where you can enjoy the glittering Hinamatsuri Doll Festival and Tenryo tourism.
