Tutor: Dr Naomi Matsumoto (Lecturer in Music, Goldsmiths College, University of London, UK). This seminar will demonstrate, through slides and audio visual materials, how to understand past musical notation better. Particular focus will be given to music written between the 18th and 19th centuries such as the works by J.S. Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, and Brahms – those we feel most familiar with. The event is suitable for musicians amateur as well as professional, music students, and those who teach music at various levels. Please note: (1) although the tutor is bilingual, the lecture will be given in the Japanese language. (2) Basic musical literacy is pre-requisite.
