In the lead up to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Kodo will perform at the opening event of Japan’s new National Stadium on Dec. 21, 2019.

–ＮＯＶＡ– A brand new visual and auditory art experience conjured by taiko and creativity
Kodo x Robert Lepage “ＮＯＶＡ,” produced by Robert Lepage, is a new visual and auditory art experience that blends traditional Japanese culture and cutting-edge visual technology. The work uses cymatics―the visualization of sound and vibrations―to program videos, light, and the movements of performers, in order to allow the audience “see sound.” Instead of using projection mapping, the technology will react to the sound of taiko and live rhythms created by the taiko drummers. Sounds will conjure movements, which connect to each other, forming a story. NOVA will depict fundamental human themes, along with essential parts of life that are difficult for people to see, such as hope and dreams.
